Border Type

There are a few options to consider when placing your embroidered badge order, such as border type and backing. This does impact the price slightly however the decision should ultimately come down to how the badge will be used and in some instances is dictated by the shape of the badge.

Overlocked (merrowed border)

An overlocked border is when the thread wraps around the edge of the badge and forms what can be compared to piping. Overlocking is the most traditional border type and is sometimes referred to as a "merrowed border". An overlocked border can only be used when the badge is a standard shape such as a square, triangle, rectangle, circle, etc. The overlocking can be any thread colour.

Laser-Cut (cut out)

Most irregular shaped embroidered badges cannot be overlocked; in this case we laser-cut the edges. This method ensures consistent and neat edges and the heat effectively seals the edges and prevents fabric fraying. Badges with hot-cut edges generally get ironed on to the garment and require a heat-seal backing.
