Backing Type

There are a few options to consider when placing your embroidered badge order, such as border type and backing. This does impact the price slightly however the decision should ultimately come down to how the badge will be used and in some instances is dictated by the shape of the badge.

Vilene (sew-on)

MRBADGES.COM uses Vilene as the backing of choice when the badges will be sewn on to the garment. Vilene is a thin layer of non-woven fabric which is fused to the back of badges to seal the threads. Keep in mind there will be some garments which will be difficult, if not impossible, to sew badges on to. This calls for a heat-seal badge, commonly referred to as an iron-on badge.

Heat-seal (iron-on)

If you want the option of ironing the badge on to garments you should choose heat-seal backing. With this option the badges can literally be heat-sealed to garments using everything from industrial heat-presses to the household iron (just remember it's a permanent application!). MRBADGES.COM makes sure that the adhesive on the back of the badge reaches the edge and therefore every square cm of the badge adheres to the garment. See FAQ's for heat-seal instructions.

Velcro (1 sides)

Badges with Velcro backing are perfect for situations were the badge may need to be removed or exchanged for a different badge. The hookside of the Velcro is permanently attached to the back side of the badge. The matching soft side of the Velcro can also be provided and can be sewn on to the garment. We offer Velcro backing in black, white or khaki.
